Abbie Gilbert, President

Oversees the entire YPAL Organization, including Executive Committee.

Abbie has been with The Kentucky and Southern Indiana Group of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network for the past three years in Recruiting and Development.  She oversees the company's College Recruiting Program, which consists of over 20 Colleges and Universities across the region.

Abbie has been actively involved in YPAL as the Assistant Director of Recruitment, YPAL's first Director of Membership, and the 2010-2011 President-Elect.

Abbie serves as the College Chapter Director of the Delta Zeta Sorority at the University of Louisville Young Alumni Council, Metro United Way Program Review Team and D.R.I.V.E Louisville YP's Mayoral Advisory Council.

Abbie graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelors of Science in Public Health and enjoys running, aerobics and anything outdoors.

Phillip Roberts, President-Elect

Assists President with the strategic direction of YPAL, serves as a liaison between YPAL and its Advisory Council.

Phillip Roberts has a Bachelor’s of Science from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and a minor in Economics.  While attending Kentucky Wesleyan College he played soccer on scholarship and served as team captain his junior season.

Phillip worked as a Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial in Indianapolis for 3 years prior to moving to Louisville.  He is currently the Manager of New Financial Consultant Development at Hilliard Lyons where he provides practice management and business development coaching to Hilliard Lyons Financial Consultants.

This is Phillip’s fourth year in YPAL and his third year serving on the Board of Directors.  Previously he served as the Vice President of Development and the Director of Professional Development.  Phillip also serves on the Board of Directors for The Salvation Army and for Carriage House Educational Services and Preschool.

Phillip lives in Crescent Hill and in his free time enjoys playing soccer and golf, watching University of Kentucky athletics, and spending time with friends and family.

Geoff White, Immediate Past President

Advises YPAL’s President, Board, and Executive Committee.Geoff is an Member at Frost Brown Todd, where he generally represents lenders, developers and other stakeholders in a wide variety of commercial real estate projects.

Geoff earned his bachelor’s degree in 2000 from Mary Washington College with a double major in history and political science. He earned his J.D. in 2003 from the University of Michigan Law School. Geoff is also a prior board member of Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) and  the Leadership Louisville Center, and a current board member of the Louisville Energy Alliance (LEA).

This is Geoff’s sixth year as a YPAL member. He is the prior Director of Diversity and has been active in the Community Outreach, Recruiting and Professional Development Committees in years past. Geoff looks forward to the continued growth of the organization in the years ahead.

Geoff enjoys spending time with his wife Krissie and two young sons.

Abby Shue, Vice President of Public Relations

Oversees Communications, Recruitment and Technology committees.

Abby is the Associate Director of The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.

Originally from Virginia and a graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis, Abby is a recent Louisville transplant. While at Butler, Abby studied ballet performance and business administration with a focus in public relations and advertising. Since moving to Louisville, Abby has become actively involved as an Actors Theatre Ambassador, Focus Louisville graduate, DDC Downtown Advisory group founding member and JCPS volunteer. She also serves on the leadership team for Net Impact Bluegrass, the New2Lou leadership committee and the BG Magazine Advisory Board.

During her term on the YPAL board, Abby plans to grow the institutional brand and create increased awareness of YPAL in and around Louisville.

Abby is a Highlands resident. In her free time she enjoys traveling, volunteering, dancing, boating and frequenting arts performances.

Matt Fillipps, Vice President of Community

Oversees Community Outreach, Diversity, and Public Issues committees. 

Matt is currently a Data Consultant for Humana, where he works on special projects and analyses for the company’s Pharmacy Division.  He holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies from Furman University.  

Matt immediately began an active involvement with YPAL's Community Outreach and Entertainment Committees upon his arrival in Louisville in the winter of 2009.  In July 2010, he joined the YPAL Board as Director of Community Outreach. This year, as Vice President of Community, Matt looks forward to working with the Directors of Diversity, Community Outreach, and Public Issues to find out new and creative ways that the three committees can work together and share ideas. 

In his spare, time Matt enjoys training for marathons, volunteering, networking, traveling, and playing volleyball, tennis, and other sports.

Chris Bailey, Vice President of Development

Oversees Membership, Entertainment and Professional Development committees.

Chris recently joined Invensys Safetran, a UK-based company with over ten locations worldwide. As a proposal specialist for the company, Chris estimates the pricing of crossing signals for the railroad industry. Prior to his current position, Chris served as Executive Vice President of Purchasing at Bailey Tools & Supply, Inc, where he worked in purchasing, vendor relations, inventory management and database maintenance.

Chris is a graduate of the University of Louisville, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Management with a minor in Marketing.  He remains very active in the University of Louisville Young Alumni Association and enjoys watching his home team play basketball. 

Last year, Chris has served as YPAL’s Director of Professional Development.  While leading this committee, he hosted many great events including a How-to Networking event, Entrepreneurship Seminar, Financial Seminar, Whiteboarding the Next Big Idea, among others.  As Vice President of Development for YPAL this year, Chris is eager to host creative and informative events.

Rob Schenkenfelder, Treasurer

Oversees YPAL's financial operations and Finance Committee.

Rob is a Kentucky licensed CPA and financial advisor with the Mitchell/Schenkenfelder Group at UBS Financial Services.  Rob works with his father John, Stuart Mitchell and Jeri Strauss in various facets of finance and investing.  The team has institutional banking relationships across the US, provides 401k/retirement plans & education for entities, and creates customized financial planning for high net worth individuals.

Rob graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Accountancy from the University of Kentucky in 2007. Post undergraduate studies, Rob graduated from the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business Masters of Science in Accountancy (MSA) program.  Rob serves as the Treasurer of the Notre Dame Alumni Association of Louisville and is on the Speakers Bureau of the Kentucky Society of CPAs.

Rob enjoys traveling, playing soccer & squash, and spending time with family & friends.

Rebecca Weis, Secretary

Oversees YPAL’s legal operations and the Legal Committee.

Rebecca is a labor and employment law attorney at Stites & Harbison, PLLC, where she represents employers in a wide variety of civil suits and administrative actions.  Rebecca earned her bachelor’s degree in 2006 from the University of Kentucky with an emphasis in corporate communication and a minor in economics.  She earned her J.D. in 2009 from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.

While attending UK, Rebecca served as President of the Student Body and as student representative on the UK Board of Trustees.  In law school, Rebecca served as Student Bar Association President.

This is Rebecca’s second year as a member of YPAL.  In the past, Rebecca served as the Public Issues Director, concentrating on enhancing the organization’s advocacy initiatives.  In that capacity, Rebecca was instrumental to both the 2011 Young Professionals Day at the Capitol and YPAL’s first ever Meet and Greet with Louisville Metro Council.  Rebecca received the 2011 “Most Valuable Young Professional” award for these efforts.

Outside of YPAL, Rebecca is a member of the Dress for Success Louisville Board of Directors.  Rebecca lives in the Highlands with her husband John and their two dogs.

Meghan Mando, Director of Community Outreach

Oversees community outreach committee, which provides volunteers for events that benefit the community and non-profit organizations.

Meghan Mando is the the Executive Assistant to the President at the Fund for the Arts, where she works closely with the NeXt! program and manages board of director relations.  Previously, Meghan was the Communications Manager at Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC.  Meghan has also served as a Contributing Writer for Business Lexington and BG Louisville magazine.

Meghan graduated with a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Kentucky's Martin School in 2010, where she focused on Non-Profit Management.  Meghan moved to Louisville in August of 2010, where she became actively involved in YPAL, serving as the Chair of the Brightside Green Tie Bash and Community Connections. She is also a graduate of Focus Louisville.   Meghan currently serves on the Advisory Boards for BG Louisville magazine and the Boys and Girls Haven.

Meghan resides in the Highlands, and enjoys running, boating, traveling and shopping in her free time.

Ben Reno-Weber, Director of Diversity

Ben Reno-Weber is a recent returnee to the Louisville area.  He is currently the CEO of the Kentucky YMCA Youth Association, a social enterprise that runs programs focused on developing engaged citizens and servant leaders in middle and high schools across the state.  As head of the KY Alliance of YMCAs, Ben also advocates at the national, state, and local levels for issues related to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Through the Diversity Committee, Ben wants to focus on 1) increasing the diversity of Louisville’s professional population through a focus on developing a professional culture among school-age populations and 2) increasing the diversity of YPAL’s membership to include more entrepreneurs, non-profit workers, medical professionals, internationals and professionals from traditionally marginalized communities.

Before returning to Louisville, Ben was a strategic consultant for the Boston Consulting Group based in Washington DC.  He is a graduate of the George Washington University, Harvard Business School, and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Ben lives in the Highlands with his wife Theresa and twins Paul and Sophia.

David Phillips, Director of Entertainment

Responsible for coordinating events to provide young professionals with the ability to network.  The Entertainment Committee plans and coordinates signature events like YPAL’s Martini Party and Annual Dinner.

David is a Senior Account Executive at Elemental Marketing, specializing in long-term strategic branding, positioning and implementation. His branding knowledge has allowed him to advise clients in industries ranging from transportation and sports, to wines and spirits, with a focus on launching new brands into the marketplace.

David is a 2006 graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. He is a member of the Fund for the Arts’ NeXt! Program, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana BIG Leadership Team and the UK Young Alumni Association. Within YPAL, he previously served on both the Public Issues and Entertainment Committees. 

Although he is a UK grad, David is a Louisville native and has always been a Cardinal at heart. In his free time, David enjoys hunting and sport fishing, traveling, horse racing, as well as cheering on his Louisville Cardinals.

Jenny Hurst, Director of Membership

Jenny has been the Membership & Events Director at Big Spring Country Club for four years, where she focuses on growing and retaining its membership, planning and coordinating member events and parties and managing the Club’s marketing efforts.  Prior to working in the hospitality industry, she spent several years working in the professional sports industry including positions with the Cleveland Barons, Washington Capitals and Denver Broncos.   

She has been an active member of YPAL since 2008, where she previously served as the Assistant Director of Membership.  As the Membership Committee is fairly new to the organization, she is excited to concentrate on the organization’s retention efforts and is committed to the development of YPAL’s Ambassador Program. 

Jenny received her Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising from the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of the UK Pom Squad and Kappa Delta Sorority.   In her spare time, she enjoys flea market treasure hunting, University of Kentucky sports and spending time with friends and family.  She also dedicates a great deal of time to her little sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana.

Jenny lives in East Louisville with her shepherd/chow mix, Dakota.

Lauren Jolly, Director of Professional Development

Responsible for offering professional development opportunities to meet the needs of members.

Lauren is a tax manager with Mountjoy Chilton Medley LLP.  Her focus is corporate and pass-through entity tax compliance and planning, particularly in the insurance and manufacturing industries. 

Lauren graduated from Indiana University in 2004.  There she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business with an emphasis in Accounting and Operations Management and a minor in Economics.  

After several years in Cincinnati, Lauren returned to her hometown of Louisville in 2008.  Upon returning, she joined YPAL and has been an active member ever since.  She is a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana and has served on committees for various other non-profits, including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the IU Alumni Association.  She enjoys a number of sports and spending time outdoors.

Lauren is looking forward to her term on the board and hopes to build on the foundation the Professional Development Committee has laid.  She is eager to organize exciting events that provide members opportunities for growth.

Nick Phelps, Director of Public Issues

Works to provide Louisville's young professionals with opportunities to play active roles in impacting the city's future. 

Nick Phelps was born and raised in Goshen, KY. He is a 2004 graduate of South Oldham High School and a 2008 graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he received a BA in Finance and Economics. While attending UK he served as President of Sigma Chi fraternity, President of the UK Student Body, and was the student representative on the UK Board of Trustees.

He is currently employed by Prosoft, where he serves as a sales representative. In his spare time Nick enjoys volunteering in his community, playing a round of golf on a sunny day, and working on his house in St. Matthews.  He serves on the board of Best Buddies KY, the Louisville Youth Orchestra, Spalding University Athletics, BG Magazine, GLI's Public Policy Advisory committee, and is very active in the Fund for the Arts.

Ali Turner, Director of Communications

Responsible for the promotions, media relations, advertising and overall communications of YPAL.

Ali is a recent transplant to Louisville from the Hoosier state. After interning at Louisville Magazine during the summer of 2008, Ali knew she would one day call Louisville her home. Ali relocated to Louisville in August 2010 to attend the University of Louisville’s Full-Time MBA program. Currently, Ali works as a direct response marketing creative strategy planner for Humana. Ali joined YPAL soon after moving to Louisville and began serving on the recruitment and communications committees.

Ali also serves on the BIG Leadership Team (the young professional’s board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana), Junior League of Louisville, Louisville Advertising Federation, and more. In 2011, she received her MBA from the University of Louisville where, as a student, she served as the Vice President of the MBA Association.

Ali is a 2009 graduate of Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in magazine journalism and psychology and enjoys cycling, running, volunteering and exploring Louisville’s culinary treasures.

Giancarlo Moise, Director of Recruitment

Primarily responsible for recruiting new members to facilitate increased involvement and retention.

Giancarlo Moise returned to Louisville recently to pursue an opportunity with PNC Financial Services.  He has quickly assimilated into the Louisville community and has joined YPAL as the Director of Recruitment.  Giancarlo is proud to have PNC bank support the organization in helping young professionals cultivate their leadership skills.

Although not native to Louisville, He has lived in the city ever since he was 6 years old leaving briefly to pursue his education at the University of Kentucky.   After his studies, he remained in Lexington working for United Way of the Bluegrass as the Community Engagement Coordinator, where he leveraged existing resources to increase the quality of life for all Central Kentuckians.

As the Director of Recruitment, Giancarlo will be leading his committee in expanding the large, talented, and motivated base of young professionals that comprise YPAL.  He also plans to work with other organizations in the Louisville area, foster relationships between members, and encourage other up and coming leaders to become part of  YPAL.

Robbie Ghosh, Director of Technology

Maintains the YPAL website, email and other technical aspects of the organization.

Robbie is an Assistant Property Manager at Hines Interests Limited Partnership and plays an integral part in managing the iconic AEGON Center in downtown Louisville.  His role includes a wide array of responsibilities including operations, construction management, contract management, tenant services, project management and management of the AEGON Center Parking Garage.  In 2010, he led a project to implement a completely networked and fully automated revenue control system for the parking garage.

Robbie is a graduate of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and real estate.  He is a member of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Louisville and is currently overseeing the production of their new website.

Robbie has been a very active member of the YPAL Technology Committee since its inception in 2009 and served as Assistant Director in 2010. In his role as Director, he aspires to discover newer and creative ways to use the website to support the organization and to help guide the committee on its proper course within YPAL.
