YPAL’s Green Initiative
YPAL is branching out to form partnerships throughout the community to make this initiative possible. Some of the organizations and corporations we are partnering with include: Net Impact Bluegrass: Through this partnership we provide green tips to our members in our Weekly Update ( a newsletter sent out weekly via e-mail.) Habitat for Humanity: This partnership was formed to give our members a hands-on experience with sustainable building that they can incorporate into their own lives. This home will be the first LEED Certified house in Louisville (only the 2nd in the Commonwealth). This project will be funded, designed, guided through the LEED certification process and built totally by young professionals and YPAL’s sponsors including Frost Brown Todd, LLC; Mountjoy Chilton Medley; Joseph & Joseph Architects and others. Northwestern Mutual Financial Network: YPAL and NMFN have organized a Young Professionals Day in Frankfort this year to bring together YPs from all over the state to learn about environmental legislation that is coming up and to meet our Commonwealth’s representatives. Young professionals groups from across the state have been invited to participate. 21st Century Parks: Will kick the summer off by exposing Louisville’s young professionals to all that our wonderful park system has to offer through a canoe trip with 21st Century Parks. *According to a 2009 Survey of the YPAL membership. What do Louisville’s young professionals say is the #1 issue facing their generation? Sustainability.* For the 2010 year, YPAL will be educating our members about what sustainability is and how to join the movement. The Green Initiative will consist of sharing ideas, opportunities and expert speaker presentations and will culminate in building a LEED certified Habitat for Humanity house.
