YPAL is co-sponsoring "Think College Now" with the University of Louisville and Know How to Go. The goal of this interactive program is to motivate minority and disadvantaged 9th and 10th graders to begin preparing for college immediately. Students and their parents will attend workshops on standardized test anxiety, financial aid, interviewing skills, and career networking.
YPAL is leading the career networking component, and we need your help. Our goal is to expose students to a variety of careers and professions. Students will be divided into small groups, and they will rotate among 5 tables divided according to type of profession. At each table, a group of young professionals will discuss their careers, education, and work experience and will answer questions for approximately 8 minutes, and then, the students will move to a different table and the group of young professionals will speak to a new small group of students.
Young professionals will be divided into the following groups: (1) Business, Sales, Finance, & Accounting; (2) Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Hospitality, & Tourism; (3) Public Service, Government, Law, Military, Justice Administration, Not-for-Profits, & Education; (4) Engineering, Architecture, & Science; and (5) Healthcare and Biotechnology.
The event will be on Saturday, March 27, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (volunteers should arrive by 10:30 a.m. for registration) at the University of Louisville Student Activities Center. Free lunch and parking will be available.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Sean Deskins at sdeskins@oldfather.com or (502) 637-7200 as soon as possible.
