EVENT DETAILS:
Habitat for Humanity LEED Home Project Volunteer Registration
8:30AM - 3:30PM
1227 South Clay Street, Louisville, KY 40203
EVENT DESCRIPTION
Who: YPAL and Habitat welcome all interested volunteers for this project. You may register to volunteer as an individual or as part of a group. If registering as a group, we will need one group representative’s name and contact information who will act as the “team leader,” whether that’s you or another member of your group. In case of any changes or cancellations, it is the team whom we will notify. The team leader will then be responsible for notifying all members of his/her group.
As a group, you may register a maximum of 12 people per volunteer day. We do not need to know the names of those volunteering (other than the team leader’s name and contact info), just the total number who will be volunteering.
Where & When: Volunteers should arrive at the construction site at 1227 S. Clay St. at 8:30 am. HFH will provide a brief introduction and orientation. Your group will work on site until 3:30 pm.
What to Bring: Habitat strives to provide all of the tools and materials and will have plenty of water on site. However, if you have any of the following items available, please bring them with you, in case they are in short supply: hammer, nail apron, tape measure and work gloves.
What to Wear: Dress in work clothes appropriate for the weather. Sturdy shoes are a must – work boots, hiking boots or athletic shoes. A cap is recommended on hot sunny days. Volunteers work on nearly every facet of home construction, helping with dozens of tasks, including preparing the site for construction, framing, insulating, siding, hanging drywall, painting and landscaping, just to name a few. However, to be clear, by volunteering for this project, you and your group are volunteering for general construction activities – whatever Habitat needs done on the day that you come – not specific tasks.
Lunch: There will be a one-hour lunch break. Your group may go off-site for lunch (there are some fast-food options nearby) or bring a sack lunch to eat on-site. It is also possible for your organization or company to sponsor lunch for the day that you are working. If interested in doing so, please contact Sujata Barai Chugh (her contact info is listed below).
Inclement Weather: It is rare that HFH will cancel a work day due to weather but will do so if it feels the work conditions are unsafe. HFH or a YPAL Representative will e-mail or call the team’s leader if it needs to cancel due to weather. The team leader will then be responsible for notifying all team members. Volunteers may also call Habitat’s construction center at 583-0332 if the weather is questionable the morning of your workday.
Release and Waiver of Liability: All volunteers will be required by HFH to sign a release and waiver of liability when they arrive at the sight. All volunteers must be at least 16. Volunteers under 18 must have the form signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Please feel free to contact Sujata Barai Chugh, YPAL LEED House Volunteer Coordinator, at sbaraichugh@gmail.com should you have any questions regarding this project. Thank you for participating in a historic and fun activity for our community!
