History
YPAL’s Beginning
In 1999, at the urging of former Jefferson County Judge-Executive Rebecca Jackson, a group of young professionals came together to support attraction and retention efforts of young professionals in the community. The initial goal of the group was to convince young professionals to stay in Louisville, where they could make a great difference in their community. They worked with elected officials and community leaders to serve as a voice for this demographic. This work continues as YPAL partners with Metro Government, Greater Louisville Inc., Leadership Louisville Center and countless other organizations to increase awareness of issues affecting young professionals, as well as activate young professionals to make a difference.
YPAL’s Structure
YPAL is a membership-based organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. The board of directors oversees committees that host different types of events for YPAL members and guests. Because YPAL is all-volunteer, the organization also relies on partnerships with the business community to help sustain its efforts.
It is through volunteer committee involvement and leadership opportunities that YPAL members can make the most of their YPAL experience.
