YPAL is proud to announce our 2024 YPAL Award Winners! Meet Gentille Ntakarutimana. Gentille was nominated by peers for connecting, engaging and developing in our community and was recognized among more than 200 nominees.

Gentille, the Assistant Director for the Metropolitan Housing Coalition, is a passionate advocate for housing needs in Louisville, refugees and immigrants.

Born in Burundi, Gentille came to the United States as a refugee at the age of eight years old. Her personal experiences with adaptation and trauma have fueled her commitment to supporting others in similar situations. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Kentucky and will begin pursuing her MBA at the University of Louisville this fall. Her ultimate goal is to open a clinic that provides mental health support to refugees and immigrants, offering them a safe space to heal and navigate their new lives.


In her role at the Metropolitan Housing Coalition, Gentille advocates for equitable housing policies and supports vulnerable populations. She also volunteers at multiple nonprofits in Louisville, furthering her commitment to making a difference in her community.

Outside of her professional life, Gentille enjoys spending time with friends, trying new foods, and has curated a long list of the best food spots in Louisville. She also enjoys traveling the world and going on walks in her new neighborhood.
