One thing you love about Louisville: Culturally and culinarily, the city punches far above its weight.

#WhyIYPAL: Because it’s my “third space”. Many are losing the social spaces and activities they find meaning in outside of the two places they spend most of their time (home and work). YPAL has been a place of immense personal and professional growth for me. YPAL continues to provide me the opportunity to cultivate meaningful relationships with other talented, motivated, and energetic young professionals across Greater Louisville.

Something interesting about you:I love to travel! I’ve been lucky enough to visit nearly two dozen countries and have a drive to keep adding more to the list.

Organization that actually pays you: Kentucky Derby Festival

YPAL event you can’t miss: YPAL Awards in June. It was a celebratory transition, saying thank you to those who made the previous year grand and a heartfelt welcome to those joining the incoming YPAL Board. I enjoyed listening to community leaders share how they’re making an impact in the community. I also liked being able to celebrate and recognize them publicly with dozens of other motivated peers. It was an inspiring, uplifting event with storytelling and networking. I’d recommend it to anyone who is interested in understanding what YPAL does in Louisville.

Favorite thing to do (other than YPAL): One of my favorite summertime activities involves sitting by the pool and journaling. I love writing and I love relaxing in the sun. It’s the best of both worlds!

One thing you love about Louisville: I love how diverse Louisville is, especially when it involves supporting small business owners and local restaurants. There is always something new to try in every zip code.

#WhyIYPAL: I hope to show Louisville transplants how great our city is to live, work, and play.

Something interest about you: I was adopted from China when I was 10-months old.

One thing you love about Louisville: I love how Louisville is home to celebrations as incredible and huge as the Kentucky Derby, yet still fosters a close-knit local community where anyone can find their place and passion.

#WhyIYPAL: To further develop my sense of self personally and my skills professionally.

Something interesting about you: Peggy is a nickname for my full name, Mary Margaret. Peggy became a nickname for Margaret as a variation of nicknames like Maggie and Meggy.

Something interesting about you: I own a DJing business and bartend part-time.

One thing you love about Louisville: That there is always something new to try! Louisville has big city amenities and a small-town feel, so there is never a shortage of events to attend, groups to join, cuisines to try, or areas to explore.

#WhyIYPAL: To strengthen my relationship with the city and the incredible people in it. Louisville is a unique and special place and I YPAL so I can be a part of the community focused on improving the world around us.

Something interesting about you: I went on a solo trip to Italy when I graduated college!

Something interesting about you: As a Pittsburgh native, I occasionally let an unironic “yinz” or “dahntahn” slip out. (Go Steelers!)

Favorite thing to do (other than YPAL): Travel!! YPAL helps me be a tourist in my own city, but I love stepping into new environments, experiencing different cultures, and adding new stamps to my passport whenever I can.

One thing you love about Louisville: Before moving here, I didn’t quite get the hype around Derby season… but then I wore a fascinator and drank an Oaks Lily—and now I’m all in! The energy and celebration across the city are unlike anything I’ve experienced. The first Saturday in May should absolutely be a national holiday!

#WhyIYPAL: I joined YPAL to get to know my new city, but stayed because I found my people. The relationships, leadership opportunities, and sense of purpose I’ve gained through YPAL have made Louisville feel like home and helped me grow in ways that matter both professionally and personally.

Something interesting about you: I get a tattoo to commemorate each of my international trips!
