Meet YPAL’s November Featured Member, Carrie Wahl!
-What is your day job?
I am an Architect at Potter and Associates Architects here in Louisville. Every day is a little different depending on what projects I am working on. They can consist of things like client meetings, code research, design, project management, construction administration, construction site meetings, reviewing shop drawings, answering requests for information. Being an architect involves a lot of problem-solving through every phase of a project. It certainly keeps me on my toes!
-What is your side hustle?
Finds Design!!! An affordable line of high design jewelry. Ranging from statement, dainty and custom jewelry for everyday wear Finds has something for everyone. Earrings make everything look better. No makeup on? Throw on some hoops. Big ole pimp on your face? How about some statement earrings to distract the viewers. All your pants feeling a little tight today?? The good news is jewelry always fits. My main goal is to make people and happy and feel good about themselves. Jewelry makes me feel pretty, and I hope it does the same for you.
-What is the best part of your job (or side hustle)?
Creating, both buildings and jewelry. Having something in your mind and turning it into something tangible that others can experience is truly incredible.
-What is your favorite Finds piece right now?
Gold Chain Mask Lanyard, I never take if off. Also, if you are sick of holding your husband/partner/whoever’s mask in your purse they come in leather and suede as well! See it here!
And might I add they are the perfect stocking stuffer 😊
-Why should people shop local this holiday season?
Small businesses are hurting right now. And honestly, a lot of them will not make it through the holiday season without our support. I am fortunate enough to have a second source of income, but a lot of people are not. Shopping local does not have to be limited to boutiques and stores. Restaurants need our help as well. Let’s all do what we can to think outside the box this year and make the holidays extra special for everyone.
-Why did you join YPAL?
I joined YPAL for the connections. This group of young professionals in Louisville is so strong and inspiring. I know some nights you might be tired from work and not want to go to a networking event but you never know who you might meet and change your life for the better.
-Book recommendation?
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, one of my favorite books of all time it is incredible, just read it.
-Favorite restaurant in Louisville?
Red Hog is our favorite date spot. We almost got married there (one of my 47 covid friendly wedding plans that did not work out). PSA if they have the pork shank on the menu you must order it.
-What is the best career advice you have received?
I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.
-If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
CHEESE, any kind, all the kinds, any time of day…it’s a slight obsession. And wine, can I add wine?
-What is the coolest place you have ever traveled?
Thailand and Cambodia, with the one and only Ann Marie Maldini and three other girlfriends from high school. I studied some of the ancient temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia in my first architecture history class and have always had the itch to go. I mentioned it to my friends and we booked our flights shortly after.
-Anything else cool you want to share?
I am getting married in December and starting a new life who knows where? Being flexible and going with the flow. Excited for our new adventure, also slightly terrified!
Do you know a great young professional who we should feature next month? Tell us about them (or yourself) here!
