Meet our featured member Adam Cappelli!

-What is your day job?

Enterprise Category Manager at Humana, Inc.

-What is the best part of your job?

Culture on the team is fantastic with a phenomenal work life balance. My role in particular is pretty great because of the visibility. The visibility I get into the work and strategy of the enterprise with chance to learn as much as I want, but also the visibility that you can create for yourself (which goes both ways if you are performing or not, positive & negative).

-What is your side-hustle?

I founded a small business focused around Spirits & Wine Adult Advent Calendars – www.holidayspiritscalendars.com. They provide customers a creative, customizable, exciting gift box featuring 12 doors on the front with a thoughtfully crafted design, that when opened reveal tiny compartments that can be filled with a variety of mini items to delight their lucky recipient (ours are themed for 50ml liquor bottles & mini wines). We sell direct to consumer and B2B to liquor stores around the country.

-What have you learned since starting the business?

We are entering year 3 with a lot of positive momentum but nothing about it has been easy. You can’t under estimate the amount of time, energy and help you need to get off the ground and trend toward becoming remotely successful. I have also learned how much I hate internet trolls.

-Why did you join YPAL?

I joined YPAL to meet people locally with diverse backgrounds outside my circle and help stay current with what’s happening in Louisville. I am finally grasping what it takes to be entrepreneur and there is incredible value to align yourself with intelligent & interesting people. YPAL helps me network with a purpose.

-What upcoming YPAL Event do you want to attend?

The Engage Series: Logan Street Market is 100% up my alley. Firsthand learning about a successful, expanding local business with creative & alternative ideas to generate additional revenue and growth.

-Why did you choose Louisville?

The short answer is I was offered a decent job here directly out of college in 2009 and I had no reason to say no. The longer answer to this is interesting, so if you meet me, feel free to ask!

-Book recommendation?

Growth IQ – Tiffani Bova

-Favorite restaurant in Louisville?

Hands down, Mojitos Tapas. Get a Margarita, some guacamole and the short ribs flatbread, you’re all set.

-What is the best career advice you have received?

Some of the best career advice I received was from an article I read about a google executive and his way up the chain. His advice is to attend any meeting that you are interested in, invited or not. Obviously be smart about it and get manage your time appropriately, but attend different meetings at work.
