Thanks to our guest Get Healthy Blogger: Mayor Fischer!

Our administration’s top three goals are to make Louisville a healthier, more active and more connected city – a city of parks, trails, walking and biking paths. That’s important for many reasons, including the fact that the workers who power the new economy want to live in a city with those kinds of amenities, and the companies that employ them want a healthy workforce.

So, as part of creating an active and vibrant city, we would like to invite all of you to attend the Subway Fresh Fit Hike, Bike & Paddle on Labor Day, Sept. 4, at Waterfront Park! For 13 years, this event, held every Memorial Day and Labor Day, has been drawing crowds of more than 10,000 participants, and I hope you will be one of them this Labor Day!

This free community event is open to all ages and abilities. At 8 a.m. the Great Lawn will be filled with music and various fitness demonstrations like yoga, tai chi, pickleball and Zumba! There will be vendor booths offering information and giveaways. Then at 10 a.m., take your pick from a 5k hike, 9.5-mile bike ride or a paddle on the Ohio River.

All attendees will have the opportunity to pick up a souvenir T-shirt after completing a brief survey. The Brain Injury Association will be onsite to fit bicycling participants with helmets if they do not have one. And in an effort to go green, we’re encouraging all participants to bring a water bottle that can be filled at our refill stations.

This event is not a race, but rather a way to bring people together in a healthy pursuit. It is open to participants of all levels, and we encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the festivities!
