When it comes to personal fitness, I hate feeling like I have to go to a gym to exercise. I don’t wake up in the mornings and think to myself, “I just can’t wait to work out today”, so I have to incorporate activities into my lifestyle that are unusual and unique to avoid getting bored with them. I also personally favor exercises that benefit mental health as well physical health because it’s so important to me to have both a healthy mind and body.
Because of this (and crime in Louisville), I decided to attend a women’s self-defense class and really enjoyed it! The class provides tips on how to avoid dangerous situations, and techniques on how to get yourself mentally and physically prepared to handle one if it does happen. Most importantly, I would say that it gave me the confidence to know that I can protect myself if necessary, while also giving me a really good leg and arm workout!
St. Matthews Martial Arts offers a monthly women’s self-defense class (usually the 3rd Wednesday of every month). The sessions are typically $20 for a 1 hour class, but they are offering a discounted class of only $10 if you mention this YPAL blog post! The discount is valid for the next class they will be offering, which is Wednesday, September 17th at 6:30 p.m. If you are interested in attending or want additional information about the class, you can visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/1523247057890007/?ref_newsfeed_story_type=regular.
