To say yoga isn’t necessarily my thing would be a bit of an understatement. But yoga in the park on a sunny day surrounded by friends? Now we’re talking. When I saw YPAL was offering a Healthcare Series centered on getting us young professionals pushing less pencils and paper and more so pushing weight and planking, I decided to give it a shot! Not really knowing what to expect out of Yoga in the Park, I can say it was more fun and re-energizing than I imagined. I saw many familiar faces while warrior-posing my way into meeting new ones as the hour long session progressed. Lucky for me, it was a beginner’s class, much like the other events in this series, that helped us learn the basics of yoga with an extremely knowledgeable instructor in a judgment free zone. This really came in handy when I nearly face-planted trying to become more zen.
Once again YPAL has provided a relaxed and energetic platform to meeting and connecting with other young professionals in the Louisville community. Sometimes it’s nice to roll up your office sleeves and try out a child’s pose instead of networking in an office setting, though thankfully they provide both. I’m not sure just how many new friends I would make struggling to keep my tree pose while focusing on my drishti (clear focus point based on the alignment of my posture.) Maybe next time I should pick an inanimate object instead of kids playing soccer. Live, learn, yoga!
