Meet YPAL’s New President, Nathan Shanks!

by | Jul 16, 2019

Nathan Shanks is YPAL’s newly elected president! We are extremely excited to see the great strides Nathan pushes YPAL to make. Get to know Nathan a little better through some fun questions he answered below!

What is your day job?

I am a property/casualty insurance advisor for Logan Lavelle Hunt Insurance & Wealth Management

What is the best part of your job?

I love networking and learning about new businesses. It is really cool to see all of the ways people in Louisville have built their careers.

Why did you join YPAL?

I originally joined YPAL to meet potential prospects but quickly learned there was so much more to it. I love making connections with other driven YP’s and finding ways to help each other succeed.

What are you most looking forward to this year for YPAL? Or What is one if your goals as President?

I am most looking forward to seeing how we can expand our market for professional development. There are a lot of local companies that can utilize our programs to develop their employees. I’m excited to see where that can go.

Why did you choose Louisville?

My entire family is from Louisville. I grew up here. I chose to stay, not only for that reason, but because I’m fully invested in the community. The connections and relationships I’ve made are extremely important to me.

Book recommendation?

The Alter Ego Effect by Todd Herman is a great read. The mindset it presents can be used in all aspects of life.

What makes Louisville weird?

The weirdest thing to me is how truly small Louisville is. You can’t hardly go anywhere without seeing someone you know, and anytime you meet someone new, you can always find a connection or a mutual friend between the two of you. I think it’s very unique for a city of our size.

Favorite restaurant in Louisville?

It definitely depends on the night. For a nice date night, Jeff Ruby’s is my favorite. If I’m watching a game Brownies is my go-to.

What is the best career advice you have received?

My dad always expressed reliability as such an important trait. If you say you’re going to do something, get it done. If your peers, colleagues, and clients can rely on you to do your best, then you will succeed.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

              BBQ chicken pizza.

Coolest place you have ever traveled?

My wife and I went to Barbados on our honeymoon. That was a really cool little island.

Anything else cool you want to share?

My wife is pregnant with our first child! Our daughter is due in the fall and we are so excited to be parents.
