Kentucky Refugee Ministries, a non-profit organization, providing resettlement services to refugees is looking for mentors to serve in the New Beginnings and Cultural Exchange programs.
Students in the New Beginnings program have been identified by the Jefferson Country Public School System as having Limited English Proficiency (LEP). They are all enrolled in JCPS’s ESL (English as a Second Language) program. A mentor would work with a student on their English acquisition and homework. The mentor is responsible to hold a six month commitment, meeting their mentee once a week for one hour.
Adults in the Cultural Exchange program are newly arrived to our Louisville community, and are looking for assistance with English acquisition and integration by learning more about the city of Louisville and the US culture. The mentor is responsible to hold a three month commitment, meeting their mentee once a week for one hour.
If you would be interested in serving our newly arrived neighbors, please contact Hannah Touchton, Cultural Exchange and Mentoring Coordinator, at (502) 479-9180 x530 or htouchton@kyrm.org.
