A Letter from our President

To our Members, Advisory Council and Sponsors,

I am happy to report that the past quarter has been filled with outstanding programming and results. I am constantly impressed by the talent that our board of directors, members, partners, and community stakeholders have contributed to making YPAL a vibrant organization for young professionals.

We ended 2016 with the graduates of YPAL’s Fall Emerging Leaders Program producing results that were shared with community and business leaders throughout our community.

The program class chose to research “Quality of Life for Young Professionals” – focusing on parks and recreation, special events and festivals, and professional development. Their research revealed that the Greater Louisville area offers an abundance of opportunities in these areas – important elements of talent attraction and retention but would benefit from improved marketing of these assets. The spring ELP class will continue to focus on Quality of Life by tackling different elements such as affordability, safety and accessibility to jobs.

In February, over 50 young professionals from across the Commonwealth gathered in Frankfort for YP Day at the Capitol. We spent the day meeting with our state leaders from all three branches of government and discussing the bills being debated during this legislative session. This was a great opportunity for YP’s to learn more about Kentucky’s justice system, lobbying, running for office, and the importance of engaging in dialogues with your elected officials.

Continuing with YPAL’s Engage Initiative this year, we recently had the privilege to meet with Mayor Mike Moore, Councilman Matt Owen and Councilwoman Callie Jahn from Jeffersonville, Indiana. Knowing that many of our members live in Southern Indiana, we want to ensure we are offering opportunities for engagement, connection and professional development across the river.

Finally, we have been hard at work on YPAL’s next strategic plan which will provide the direction for our organization over the next 5 years. I am excited to say that YPAL’s future is strong and our ability, reach, and influence continues to grow.
