A Letter from our President

To our Members, Advisory Council and Sponsors,

It has been just four months since our new board term officially kicked off – and what a quarter it has been! We have hosted dozens of core events, launched our Fall 2016 Emerging Leaders Program class, and are preparing for the 2016 YP Unite Summit in November.

YPAL exists to provide leadership development, educational opportunities, and philanthropic support to Louisville’s young professionals for the benefit of the local community. This year, we’re especially focused on ways to better engage with our membership and our community. Part of our Engage Initiative this year is focused on meeting our elected officials in both Metro Louisville and Southern Indiana.

Over the course of these past few months, members of YPAL’s leadership team met with the Mayor of Charlestown, Indiana; representatives from Jeffersonville, Indiana; the Mayor of New Albany, Indiana; four Louisville Metro Council Representatives; and most recently we had a meeting with Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.

While there were many items discussed, we particularly focused on having young professionals be more involved during important city discussions and to help be a resource for increasing the number of young professionals serving on boards and commissions. This was a great opportunity for YPAL and will continue to be an ongoing conversation we will have with our city officials.

Additionally, we are highly focused this year on working with business and community leaders to be a valuable resource for talent attraction and retention. Our organization was created after a study showed Louisville was losing its young people after college graduation to larger cities. We are and will continue to be champions for growing and keeping our young talent.

It is because of all our members and community supporters that we continue to be the thriving organization that we are. If you ever have any questions or ideas, please do not hesitate to reach out to me throughout the year.

Chris Nation
President, Young Professionals Association of Louisville
