YPAL is proud to announce our 2024 YPAL Award Winners! Meet LaDaya Kami Owens. LaDaya was nominated by peers for connecting, engaging and developing in our community and was recognized among more than 200 nominees.

LaDaya, also known as Kami, is a native of Kentucky and a human resources professional passionate about training, coaching and developing current and future leaders. LaDaya graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s in Business Management with a minor in Vocal Performance and a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from Campbellsville University. LaDaya is working on her dissertation to complete a Ph.D. in Education and Social Change from Bellarmine University.

 

LaDaya’s positive attitude and go-getter tenacity has afforded her many opportunities, such as the title of Miss Black University of Kentucky during her freshman year, a member of the prestigious University of Kentucky Opera Theater, 2008 Gatton College of Business and Economics Commencement Speaker, the Bellarmine University’s 2023 St. Catherine of Alexandria Medal for Distinguished Service and Scholarship Award, and she recently founded the first graduate student organization at Bellarmine University: The Black Professional and Graduate Student Association. In 2023, LaDaya was honored as a Louisville Business First Forty under 40 recipient. LaDaya is a Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. member, a Gatton College of Business and Economic advocate, and a Greater Louisville, Inc Ambassador.
