LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 22, 2026) — For many young professionals, the journey to finding a “greater purpose” begins with a single step. For Kwanita Allen, a born-and-raised Louisvillian and HR contractor with Kentucky Youth Advocates, that step was joining YPAL in 2024. Now in her second year, Allen has transitioned from a curious member to a graduate of the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) and a YPAL Ambassador.
“I was very interested in being amongst like-minded people who are trying to develop their personal relationships like me,” Allen said.
However, even as a newcomer, Allen felt an immediate alignment with YPAL’s mission. She saw the impact YPAL was making and immediately wanted to be in the Ambassador program.
“Being an Ambassador makes me feel like I have a greater purpose within YPAL,” she said. “Just being a regular member is cool, but advancing is even cooler.”
That drive led her to the Fall 2025 ELP cohort, an experience she describes as transformative. Through the leadership development program, Allen gained a deeper understanding of her professional identity.
“You learn that the things you do day-to-day are done for a reason,” Allen said.
For those on the fence about joining the next ELP cohort, Allen’s advice is simple.
“It’s completely worth it. I will say that with every breath of my being.”
As she moves forward in 2026, Allen carries a heart full of gratitude for YPAL and its community—an experience she describes as “fabulous.” She’s already laid her first brick, and she hopes you’ll join her at the start line to begin building your own story, too.
